Music Group

Purpose / remit of Music Group. The Music Group should operate as a ‘think tank’ for developing music in worship and the life of the congregation, and try to engage the effort of the right people for the right tasks rather than taking on all the work. The Music Group will report to the Kirk Session through the Worship Committee.

 

The Music Group had its first meeting in November and started the ball rolling for a programme of development. The first meeting included looking at the purpose of the group, identifying some broad goals to work towards and thinking about some immediate ideas for improvements
 
 
 

Music Group membership

The members of the music group are Roger Trueman, Aishling Samson, Cathy Davidson, Fiona MacFarlane and Andrew Russel. If you’d like to join us, and can deliver actions promptly and energetically, please speak to Andrew.
 

 

Where do we want to be in the future

Developing the music of The Old Parish Church is important, but to bear fruit must sit as part of a wider programme of development for the church overall. Within “music” development the following goals require to be pursued:
· Expand the choir and choristers’ repertoires leaning principally on sacred music, both traditional and modern, and involve a broader range of tastes and style.
· Develop the congregation’s involvement in music in services.
· Involve more musicians and instrumentalists in church services.
· Develop the spread of ages in both choirs.
· Develop greater musical and choral links with other Churches.


Ideas
The group discussed lots of ideas, mainly about the choir in the first instance, but the choir members will be consulted about these before any implementation. At the next meeting on 10th December there will be a brainstorming session to generate ideas about:
· choir and choristers
· organ and instrumental music in services
· hymns
